Is it helpful do to all of these somewhat redundant actions? YES.

Our leaders need to know hear your voice loudly and often in the next week or few.

The call for "WAR!" is very loud, and so is the call to reject liberty and common sense in favor of reactionary fervor. We must reject that call, and our voices must combine a roaring wave, to counter the cries for blood, and "security" at any cost.

Clear Channel Circulates List of "lyrically inappropriate" Songs- this is very interesting and disturbing. The country's biggest radio station owner "has identified 150 songs that are considered to be 'lyrically inappropriate' for airplay" in the wake of the 9-11 attacks. Subject material includes songs about flying, bombs, antiwar and anti-violence songs, "What a Wonderful World," the entire Rage Against the Machine catalog, and just about every song that was popular during Vietnam. Somehow I find this to be the most worrisome news item I've seen since 9-11. Clear Channel owns over 1,200 radio stations, in 247 of the 250 largest markets, and controls 60% of rock-radio listening

Eye on the Empire by Alan Bock is a reasoned analysis of some of the factors that have led to an environment in which Tuesday's attacks were not surprising. One thing he points out which is worth noting is that people in many parts of the world are becoming more desperate, and more hopeless, with each passing year, and thus acts like devastating suicide attacks seem less horrible to them. Indeed, if your town had been bombed and your sister slaughtered, it would probably be a little easier for you to stomach the idea of dying for your cause. When you're living in Hell, death can seem like a gift.
